SHARE Foundation receives grant for eXtreme Prevention

SHARE Foundation was recently awarded a new grant that will provide prevention services to underserved adults in Union County with an anticipated start date of 9/30/2024. The awarded grant is the Strategic Prevention Framework – Partnerships for Success for Communities (SPFPFS-C) from the Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA). SHARE Foundation was one of 41 grants awarded in the US, and the only grant awarded in Arkansas.

The purpose of the SPFPFS-C grant is to reduce the onset and progression of substance misuse and its related problems by supporting the development and delivery of community-based substance misuse prevention and mental health promotion services. It will also expand and strengthen the capacity of local community prevention providers to implement evidence-based prevention programs.

Now that SHARE Foundation has expanded its prevention services to include both youth and adults, its prevention program name has changed to eXtreme Prevention. For over a decade, eXtreme Youth Programs through the SHARE Foundation has provided prevention services and activities to local youth in grades K-12 in all participating Union County public schools. Through the SPFPFS-C Grant, the SHARE Foundation will now be able to reach adults suffering from substance use disorder (and those at risk) through prevention, treatment, and recovery services. eXtreme Prevention will incorporate all prevention services including those from eXtreme Youth Programs, the ACTIVE Coalition, and adult prevention services.

eXtreme Prevention will have four core partners: Southern Arkansas Regional Hospital, NewHaven, 100 Families, and the ACTIVE Coalition. These organizations will work together to strategize, develop, and implement a five-year Union County Prevention Plan that meets the needs of our community with a focus on at-risk individuals and underserved populations experiencing substance use disorder and related problems.
